Charles H. Gates, 80 years of age, of Northport, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 23, 2011. Born in River Hebert he was a son of the late Charles & Margaret (Hape) Gates.
Charles served in the army for a few years. He worked for Enamel Heating in Amherst. He worked with Russell Beaton as a carpenter for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in the woods.
Charles will be sadly missed by his daughters; Margaret Haynes (Gary) of Northport, Joan Reid (Billy) of Joggins, Tammy Forrest (Doug) of Northport, Kelly Grimmitt (George) of Northport; sons; Murray (Sue) of ON, Joseph (Tammy) of Amherst; sister, Eva Blizzard (Larry) of Montreal, Pearl Brown of Fort Lawrence, NS; 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, the former Rita Arseneau; son, Clarence; sister Beatrice O'Brien; twin brother, Carl and his brother, Lawrence.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St Amherst, N.S. (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Burial to take place in the River Hebert Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dads care givers with the V.O.N.,John Moore, Kim Chapman and Kevin Lemoine for the love and attention they have given dad over the past 10 years.
