Lieu de naissance : Sydney Mines, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada

Lieu de décès : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 25 avril 2011

On April 25, 2011, our lives changed forever with the loss of a wonderful husband, father, ‘poppy,’ brother, uncle and friend. Gordon Archibald Ferguson passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at Wentworth Court, Harbourstone.
Gordon was one of 11 children born to the late William and Margaret Ferguson on June 14, 1934.
Born and raised in Sydney Mines, ‘Fergie’ worked for Modern City Dairy before becoming a pipefitter, working various construction jobs. He then joined the Sydney Mines Police Department where he worked until retirement. During this time he received a Certificate of Commendation for an act of great merit in providing assistance to others in a selfless manner by the Governor General of Canada.
Fergie was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and an active member in the community, including Christmas parade and the food bank.
He could often be found joking with the girls at Tim Hortons accompanied by friends, Stan and Peter. A gentle giant, with a keen wit, Fergie loved nothing more than to be in the company of his family and friends, belting out a tune or gliding across the dance floor. “Poppy’s Taxi Service” was readily available to his grandchildren, a job he delighted in.
Fergie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty (Dearing); and “Daddy’s Girls,” Donna (William) Pero, Ruthann March (Stewart MacKinnon), Kelly (Darren) Hodder, and Danielle (Peter) Wyman and grandchildren, Zach, Chelsea and Julianna Pero, Kayla and Marley Hodder and Sadie Wyman. He is also survived by brothers, Bill (Betty), Bruce (Yvonne) and sister, Dru Potter; brothers-in-law, Sandy MacLeod, Danny Lewis, Jack Evans, Dick (Clara), Greg (Sylvia) and Reg (Joanne) Dearing; sister-in-law, Bernice Ferguson; mother-in-law, Ruth Dearing; as well as many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Rod (Gladys), George (Alma) and Donnie, sisters, Christine (Mike) MacNeil, Peggy MacLeod, Anna Lewis and June Evans, father-in-law, Bernard Dearing, son-in-law, Allan March and nephew, Bernie Dearing.
Visitation will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines, Wednesday, April 27, 2011, from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, April 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29 in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Marion Barclay-Mackay officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Autism Society, Sydney Mines Food Bank or Alzheimer’s Society.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at jmjobesfuneralhome@ns.aliantzinc.ca.
You are my Sunshine, my only Sunshine...
