EDWARD SIDNEY ALLDERDICE
September 20, 1957-August 31, 1981
On December 29th 2017, at 2:30 PM Join in celebrating the life of Bill and Penny’s son Edward in the Atrium of the Medical Education Centre, Clinch Crescent, Memorial University of NL. Potluck reception follows. Parking available. Brother of Jacob Allderdice, and Frances Witte-Holland, Ed graduated from Prince of Wales Collegiate, the Cambridge School of Weston, and the College of the University of Chicago. Ed studied with the artist/printmaker Misch Kohn. Today and always we rejoice as witnesses to his creativity. We remember Edward as a round-faced happy child in a hay-rack surround by hungry yearlings. We remember his saying to his brother,“ don’t beat me, I’m not a drum.” We remember the evening in his seventh year when he spoke out to the congregation of the Community Church of NYC, asking, “Why is our government playing monopoly with American and Vietnamese lives?” We remember the day he was asked if he planned to be a potter when he grew up? He responded: “I’m already a potter.” We welcome Pam Barrie into our family. She was beside him when their bus crashed in Wyoming. We treasure remembrance from his friends and mentors. Their stories, and his shared pottery, poetry and etchings/collages, keep his spirit alive for we who knew him, as for you who in the future may come to be inspired by his vision. As we gather in Celebration of Edward’s life and of his father William’s life, may we be transformed through shared memories. Then let us go out with renewed resolution to celebrate and nurture all life, this day and always.
