It is with much sorrow we announce the passing of a husband, father and Papa, Roderick Stephen Alexander Lee, peacefully at home on April 28, 2011.
Born in River Ryan on May 28, 1944, where he lived his entire life, he was a son of the late Joseph and Veronica (MacPhee) Lee.
Papa is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 43 years, Anita (Feit); sons, Ricky, Joe and Manning; daughter, Veronica Murray and her husband, Blair. He will be greatly missed by the grandchildren he adored, Devon, Joshua, Shannon, Taylor, Kate, Molly and Libby, Christopher and Abbey-Lynn; also surviving are sisters, Tootsie MacLeod (Charles), Josephine Borgal (Allan) Marcella Bosse (Thom - deceased), Sharon DeGiobbi (Tommy).
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Veronica (MacPhee) Lee; sister Barbara and beautiful infant granddaughter, Holly Lee-Anna Murray.
Roddie was a member of the former St. Michael's prish and men's club. He loved being out in his yard doing various chores. Our "Papa" worked in the coal mine until an injury forced his retirement. He spent several years of his life as president of the Injured Workers Association of Cape Breton, where he worked tirelessly on behalf of those who needed his help. He also served a term as a Sub District Four Board Member for the UMW.
To honour his wishes, our Papa will be cremated and his cremated remains spread where he wanted to be. There will be no visitation.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will be held Tuesday May 3, at 2 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, New Waterford, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Carmel Centre, New Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Injured Worker's Association or a charity of one's choice.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
Our family would like to offer our deepest most sincere thanks to the V.O.N., palliative care, his longtime doctor and friend Ien T. Oei, the staff of Lawton’s Drug Store, and all of our family and friends throughout Papa's illness.
“Our Papa will live on in all that he has inspired in us...
Love, Morality, and Respect.”
