McCANN, Stuart O'Dell — 91, of Windsor, Hants County, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born March 11, 1920 in Windsor, he was a son of the late Clarence (1947) and Ada (Smith) (1936) McCann. Stuart worked at MacKenzie's creamery for nearly 20 years. He served his country in the 88th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery, 5th Armored Division, from 1940-45 in Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. After the war, he worked as a meter reader with Nova Scotia Power Corporation for 27 years. He was a member of Windsor United Baptist Church, Seniors' Bus Society, Gliders Club, Gliders Bowling League and a past member of Square and Round Dance Clubs in the Valley. Stuart was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch, serving as Chaplain, obtaining his certificate of merit and was awarded the Palm Leaf to Meritorious Service Medal with Distinction on October 30, 2003. He is survived by loving wife of 72 years, Gladys (Connors); daughter, Myrna Mae Louise Burrows (Merton), Terrance Bay, Ontario; sons: Richard Stuart (Audrey Rourke), Three Mile Plains, and Clarence Wade (Marjorie), Stellarton; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; brothers: William (Gladys), Ottawa, ON, Douglas (Barb), Gibbons, Alberta, and Donald (Sylvia), Windsor; sisters: Cora (Bob) Bishop, Caledon, ON, Marion McNeil, Windsor, and Vivian Wile, Dartmouth; and half-brother, Reginald. Stuart was predeceased by brothers: Marvin "Pete" (1960), Ronald (1965), Victor (1969), Eugene (1989), and Robert (2011); sisters: Dorothy (1988), and Ruth Ripley (2010); half-brothers: John and Edward; and daughter-in-law Beverley McCann (2005). Arrangements for cremation were entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral and Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor. The Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No. 009, Windsor, conducted a tribute service at 7 p.m., followed by visitation until 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 1. A funeral service, followed by reception, was held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, in Windsor United Baptist Church, 411 King St., Windsor, where Rev. Jeffrey White officiated. Burial was held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Family flowers only, by request.
