Louis Epifano, 88, of East James Street, Whitney Pier, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Dominic and Carmella (Antonello) Epifano.
Louis was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128, Whitney Pier.
He was retired from Sydney Steel where he worked in the general yard.
He was also a member of Holy Redeemer parish.
Surviving are his sons, Louis 'Lou' (Sharon), Point Edward, and Dominic (Lisa), Halifax; sister, Florie, Hamilton, Ont.; brother, Tony (Vera), Sydney; grandsons, Christopher and Benjamin; sisters-in-law, Dora Epifano and Eleanor Epifano.
Louis was predeceased by his wife, Matilda 'Tillie' (Pino) in March 2009, sisters, Mary, Margie and Lucy, brothers, Joe and Nick, brother-in-law, William Fernandes.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Saturday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Redeemer Church Building Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
