Donna Murray
The death of Donna Murray, age 67, wife of Steward Murray of Murray Corner, occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 7, 2009, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Saint John, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Beulah (Carter) Estabrooks.
As a bookkeeper, she worked with BPFA Inc. for many years organizing and creating work projects for the Scallop Enhancement Program, the Herring Fishery, Crab and Lobster Fishery. Prior to this, she worked at CN Marine as a cook and was well known for her cooking skills and entertaining.
Donna was also heavily involved in politics for many years. She was on the executive of the Beausejour Liberal Association, Tantramar Liberal Association and the Tantramar Womens Liberal Association. Donna was recognized for her many accomplishments with politics and fisheries. She was also very involved with her community by supporting the Murray Corner United Church, the Botsford Professional Fishermens Association, the UCW and helping her neighbors whenever she could.
Donna will be sadly missed by her husband of 48 years, Steward, Little Shemogue (Murray Corner); two daughters, Patricia Gail (Kenneth) Magee, Halifax, Kimberley Dawn Murray-Atkinson, Shediac; and a son David, Toronto; a grandson, Evan Atkinson, Shediac; and a sister Candida Estabrooks, Moncton.
A memorial service will be held at the Murray Corner Church, Murray Corner on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 2 p.m. Burial in the Pioneer Cemetery with reception in the Murray Corner United Church basement to follow.
The family wishes to thank the hospital staff, especially Dr. Andrea Wall, for all their support and dedication during Donna’s lengthy illness. The family would also like to thank their neighbors and friends for all the love and support they have given to Donna and her family during these trying times. Donations can be made to the Murray Corner United Church, the Pioneer Cemetery or the Canadian Cancer Society in Memory of Donna.
