It is with great sadness, that we, the family of John Norman ‘Geazer’ MacInnis, announce his passing at home (Steele’s Hill) on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the age of 60 years after losing his battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, Sept. 11, 1950, he was the son of the late John ‘Geazer’ and Toni (Stanley) MacInnis.
He was a member of Glace Bay Kinsmen and K40 Club, and also Caledonia and Tower Road Dart Leagues. He was a huge Philadelphia Flyers fan and also enjoyed working in his garden. He was employed with Hopkins Fisheries.
John is survived by daughters, Jillian (Daniel Devison) Frederiction, N.B., and Natasha (Mark Brooks), Glace Bay; daughter, Stacey Gillis, her children, Anthony, Alicia and Hunter of Alberta. Also survivings are his sister, Susan Thompson; a brother, Stevie (Cathy), of Glace Bay; the mother of his children, Lynn (MacMullin) MacInnis; nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John was also predeceased by a sister, Betty Kelley.
In honoring Johnny’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. There will be a memorial service at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 3 p.m.with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Private burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
By request, family flowers only. As an expression of sympathy for John, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the SPCA.
