It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Christina Roach, on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital with her family at her side.
She was born in New Waterford and was a member of St. Michael’s parish.
Christina was also a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club; a former member of Aging Gracefully; volunteer at Loaves and Fishes, Sydney; a faithful visitor to the Maple Hill Manor and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Mental Health Ward. Christina also supported the Foster Children’s Fund and was a life time member of the Little Flower Society.
Christina was the daughter of the late Archie and Christina (Groves) McIsaac.
She is survived by her partner, Derrick (Jerry) Mitchell. Christina is also survived by her two sons, Archie, Ontario, and Wilfred, New Waterford; and four daughters, Mary (Jim) Taylor, Ontario, Sarah Roach, Toronto, Heather (Herbert) Currie, Lingan, and Donna (Robert) Moffatt, Halifax. She is also survived by her sisters, Frances Martell, Ontario, Sarah Jane (Mahon), New Waterford, Margaret ‘Micky’ MacIntyre, Ontario, and Hanna (Chester) MacAulay, Ontario; and by her brothers, John D., New Waterford, and Peter, Ontario. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Christina was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Joseph Roach (1995), her brothers, Archie and Willie and her sisters, Theresa, Charlotte and Mary. She was also predeceased by one grandchild, Travis and two great-grandchildren, Adam and Christina.
Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Paul MacNeil at 10 a.m., Saturday at Parish of Saint Leonard/St. Michael’s Church with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Carmel Centre, New Waterford.
