Hicks, Robert Roy "Bob"
1931-2011
The death of Robert Roy "Bob" Hicks, 79, of Sackville, occurred at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton, on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.
Born in Sackville, Bob was a son of the late Chester and Sarah (Stultz) Hicks.
Bob was the past president of the Sackville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion for eight years, Past District Commander of Westmorland-Albert District, received the Legion Life Membership MSM Medal, Palm Leaf Medal, and the Queen's 50th Golden Jubilee Medal. He was a member of the youth leadership camp for 30 years.
He was a member of the Sackville Fire Department for 10 years. Bob enjoyed sports immensely and was an avid hunter for many years. He was a top player for baseball in his league, played hockey as goalie and was inducted into the Sports Wall of Fame.
Bob will be very sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Geneva (nee Ward) and a sister, Pearl (Elmer) Wheeler, Charlottetown; two brothers-in-law, Everett (Phyllis) Ward, Edward (Judy) Ward, and two sisters-in-law, Alice (Elliott) King and Mary Lowerison (Ken); many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by three sons, Robert Wayne, Bruce Roy and Troy Dean, as well as a brother, Henry, and one brother-in-law, Larry Ward.
Arrangements were under the care of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300) from where visitation was held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. A funeral service was held at the funeral home at 2 pm on Thursday, April 28, 2011. Pastor Morris Mills officiated.
Donations in Bob's memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Westcock Cemetery, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #26, Sackville, or the charity of one's choice.
