Stephen Craig Kennedy

Stephen Craig Kennedy

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our beloved Stephen at his home in Dartmouth on December 16, 2017. Stephen spent most of his school years in Montague, P.E.I., before moving with his family to Bridgewater, NS for his senior year. He graduated from Bridgewater Junior/Senior High School before attending St. Mary’s University in Halifax, where he earned his B.A. and B. Ed. Stephen spent a brief time working with social services, supply teaching in Halifax and Dartmouth and teaching in northern Canada (Yellowknife) before returning home to Nova Scotia to settle down and begin working in the Nova Scotia educational system full time. For the last 10 years, he has been on staff at the Graham Creighton and Eastern Passage Education Centre, where he was affectionately known as “Mr. K” by his students. He had a great fondness for the students and could often be found talking about “his kids” and the challenges they faced and the accomplishments they earned. He always made time to attend their sporting events and tried to provide them with whatever support he could to help them succeed. Stephen was, himself, an accomplished athlete, participating in many sports and competing at the national level in track and field and softball. Even as he moved out of his sporting prime, he continued to be noted for his fierce commitment on the ball diamond – the hard slide into second, trying to unsettle the opposition with his big booming voice, and playing over 100 games a summer for multiple teams. Despite his big, gruff demeanour, Stephen had a tender heart. He had a special love for animals, but most especially for his own fur babies, Bella, Furby, Hoover and Mama. Stephen is survived by his loving spouse, Christy Goulden, his parents, Howard and Marjorie (MacDonald) Kennedy; his brother Michael, his sister Heather Bar (John) and his nephews, Matthew and Jackson, and niece, Gabrielle. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 22nd at 2 p.m. at the Cole Harbour Funeral Home and Crematorium, 1234 Cole Harbour Road, Cole Harbour, N.S. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA or a local animal rescue organization of your choice would be appreciated. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.coleharbourfuneral.com
