Averil Jean Chapman age 94, of Amherst passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Gables Lodge, Amherst.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Janet (Estabrooks) Roach. Averil was employed in the office of the Dominion Manufacturers Ltd. for six years, and was secretary of First Baptist Church for 14 years, retiring in 1976. She was a charter member of the Baptist Mothers Association and the Greta Grimmers W.M.S. Averil enjoyed her friends, the card club and many years of cottage life at Tidnish Head.
She is survived by daughters, Sheila (Jim) Brooks of Bowmanville, ON and Janet (Wayne) Crone of Wasaga Beach, ON and son Gerald (Linda) of Amherst; brother Fred Roach of Deep River, ON; six grandchildren, Graham (Tiffany) Brooks and Joy (Kevin) DesBarres both of Bowmanville, ON, Melanie (Robin) Austen of Port Coquitlam, BC, Karen (Mark) Leduc of Ottawa, ON, Wendy Crone of Elmvale, ON and Stephen (Allison) Chapman of Ottawa, ON; seven greatgrandchildren, Jessica Bumstead, Emily Brooks, Tyler and Carter Chapman, Kirsten and Hailey Leduc and Wade DesBarres and numerous nieces and nephews.
Averil was predeceased by her husband Ernest E. Chapman in 1977, a grandson Dan Crone, two sisters Marion and Helen Roach and a brother Howard Roach.
Cremation has taken place.
Her family will receive visitors at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst on
Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating.
Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery beside her husband.
Donations in Averil's memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, First Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
