Herbert Gilks
GILKS, HERBERT - Mr. Herbert Charles Gilks, husband of the late Opal Marie (Carson) Gilks of Route 8 Blissfield passed away Thursday morning at Miramichi Regional Hopsital, at the age of 96. Born in Blissfield, NB, he was the son of the late Rance A. and Sarah (Phair) Gilks. He was a member of St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Doaktown. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Department of Public Works and also was employed with the Department of Defense, he was a woodsman, fishing guide, tree planter and was an avid gardener and fisherman. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch # 23, Doaktown. He was a veteran of WW2 serving overseas, North Shore Regiment. He is survived by five daughters, Evelyn Hartling of Blackville, Dorothy Parks (Bill) of St Stephen, Glenna Gaston (Edward) of Doaktown, Charlotte Hamilton (Rick) of BC, Linda Carter (Sterling (Skip)) of Calais Maine, three sons, Murray (Loretta) of BC, Boyd (Shirley) of Doaktown, Keith (Barbara) of Boiestown, three sisters, Mary Connors of Blackville, Barbara Burns of Ontario, Amy Gilks of Blackville, a special care giver Krystal Amos, 25 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. Besides his parents and his wife he was predeceased by sisters Olive Gilks, Charlotte, brothers, Maurice, Merle and Osborne, one grandson Robert Hartling.
Mr. Herbert Charles Gilks is resting at Davidson’s Funeral Home, 579 Main Street, Doaktown with visitation on Saturday, May 7, from 2 to 9. The Funeral Service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Doaktown, with Rev. Andrew Fraser officiating. Burial will be in Ford Hollow Cemetery at a later date. In Herbert’s memory donations to Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or a memorial of ones choice would be appreciated. Please note members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23 are asked to assemble on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a legion service.
