John Kizer

John Kizer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Ivan Kizer age 65 of Amherst on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late George and Marjorie (Brown) Kizer.
Johnny was an icon of the Town of Amherst. He was known and well respected by most of the town's people and always had a glowing smile for everyone he came in contact with. Johnny was a hard worker and made a great contribution in helping to keep the town clean by collecting recyclable materials.
Johnny was often seen driving his bicycle covered with flags many of which were given to him by tourists and local residents, or his tractor loaded with bottles and cans heading for the bottle exchange.
He enjoyed spending time at the old Bailey Arena with his grandmother and later the Amherst Stadium for years where he made many friends with the young hockey players and teams.
In the summer, Johnny kept busy mowing lawns for many of the town's folk and in the fall he raked their leaves.
He is survived by his sisters Shirley of Oromocto, NB, Donna of Alberta and Susan of Ontario and one brother Jim (Lois) of Amherst and many nieces and nephews.
Johnny was predeceased by two sisters Gina and Cheryl Ann.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst 667-9906.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel.
Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Johnny's memory may be made to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre Palliative Care.
On line condolences may be made to the family via: www.campbellsamherst.ca
