NEW GLASGOW - Mary Agnes Pero, age 86, of Highland Dr., New Glasgow, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 5, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by family.
Born in Lundy, she was a daughter of the late John and Celina (Casey) Pettipas.
She was a member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the 55 Plus Club, an avid card player and she enjoyed bowling. “Nanny Pero” was known for her many Sunday dinners, and her traditional Christmas Eve rabbit pie will be remembered fondly. “Mom” coined the phrase “everyone gets the same treatment” whether it be gifts, love or other. She enjoyed great health, and her final days with her family gave all great moments of joy and comfort enhanced by the care, concern, and professionalism given by the staff of the ICU.
She is survived by daughters: Marie (Paul) Works, Caribou River; Margaret England, Stellarton; Matilda (Rick) Fillmore, Plymouth; Marlene (Michael) MacNaughton, Westville; son, John (Tara), New Glasgow; grandchildren: Greg (Kathy), Michelle (Glen), Denise (Sean), Adele, Blake, Suzanne (Josh), Shaun (Angela), Jordan, Madison, Coady, Matthew and Marlee; six great-grandchildren; brother, Peter Pitts, at home; sister, Theresa Kenny, Trenton.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; daughter, Mary; brother, Francis; son-in-law, Wayne England.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral mass 10 a.m. Monday in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Donald Boudreau officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to Summer Street Industries or a charity of choice.
