Alice Ledwell

We sadly announce the sudden but peaceful death of our mother Alice (nee Butler) Ledwell on May 4th. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Cecil Ledwell, two infant sons, by parents Michael and Mary Ellen Butler, and sister Minnie of Trepassey. Left with a lifetime of beautiful memories are her children: Jean Ann OSU, Patrice, Elizabeth, Barbara, James (Anne Marie Grace), Francis (Helen Ledwell), Monica, John (Joan Corrigan), Cecil (Rhonda White). She was a loving Nan to Jonathan Watton (Mika), Mark Watton (Ruth) and Kristofor Watton (Renate); Francis Ledwell (Melissa), Alicia Ledwell (Roy), Colleen (recently deceased) Craig, Michael, Robert Whitmell and their families; Ralene Hiscock (Shane) and Ashley Whitty (Danny); and the greatest "Nanny-Nanny" to Kaden Ledwell Bailey. She also leaves to mourn, in Calvert, her dear sister-in-law Madonna (Aiden) Swain and her family, and her dear brother-in-law Robert Ledwell and his family. She will also be missed by Rosalie Ledwell of Bauline, and by Tom and Regina Dinges and the Ledwells of Boston, MA. She also leaves to mourn relatives in Trepassey, especially the Corcoran and Sutton families. Our mother treasured her many friends, including Betty Perry, Jose Power, Sister Irene Kennedy and Sister Eleanor Savage. Fond memories of many other friends in St. John's, Stephenville, Codroy Valley, Placentia, Daniel's Cove, Calvert and Trepassey brightened her life. She was admired for her caring and compassionate manner with her patients and co-workers throughout her Nursing Assistant career. Her generous heart, warm hospitality and love of a great hand of cards is her legacy to us. We will welcome friends at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Friday, May 6th, from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gathering Place, 172 Military Road P.O. Box 1761, St. John's, NL A1C 5P5. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Queen of Peace on Torbay Road. Following the Mass, we will lay our mother to rest in Calvert.
