Wayne Bernard Gershon age 71 years of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and formerly of Consul, Saskatchewan lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre. He was born in the Broadview, Saskatchewan district on August 5, 1939. He worked with his father Michael in a general store in Tompkins, Saskatchewan. He married Mae Schreiner at Gull Lake over fifty years ago. Wayne continued working in the store in Tompkins before moving to Eastend where he worked for a farmer. He then started working at the Eastend Co-op Service Station and then transferred to Consul with the Coop. Wayne later spent nine years working at the Consul Service Station (Seifert’s). He then worked for the Department of Highways for twenty-six years at Consul and at Shaunavon, retiring in 2005. He was a hard worker who could fix anything. Wayne was an avid gardener and enjoyed yard work. He enjoyed summers at Cypress and loved fishing, hunting, camping and was a gun club member. While in Consul he volunteered with the Consul Fire Department. He loved his animals and always had a pet, mostly dogs. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Millicent Gershon and his father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Evelyn Schreiner. He is survived by his wife Mae, his daughter Debbie Zilkie of Medicine Hat, grandchildren Quinn and Amber and great granddaughter Madison; his son Rocky Gershon (Jolene) of Consul and Jolene’s children Trista, Parker, Samantha and her daughter Molly; his daughter Annette Gershon of Medicine Hat and grandchildren Brandon and Breanne; his brother Ron Gershon (Evelyn) of Waldeck, his sister Colleen Gershon of Swift Current, his brother-in-law Ken Schreiner (Doreen) of Gull Lake as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held at Binkley’s Funeral Home in Shaunavon on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David Manley officiating. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
