Susan ‘Kiju Sue’ Denny, 83, of 95 Denny’s Lane, Eskasoni, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Eskasoni, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Gould) Simon.
She was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni, and was the eldest active member in the parish choir. Susie was a bingo player who was also an excellent basket weaver. She was very generous within her community as a foster Mom and loved to go fishing in her early years with her husband. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Wayne) Sylliboy, Eskasoni; daughter-in-law, Sylvia, Eskasoni; by two foster sons, William and Ricky Paul of Membertou; five grandchildren, Terry (Trina), Dean (Francine), Dale (Angeline), Claudine, Lyndon; 15 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter, Valerie; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe R. in 1993, her son, Eugene in 2002, by her infant daughter, Elizabeth, granddaughter, Valerie Ann Young in 2005, foster son, Gerard Isaac and by brothers and sisters, Stephen Louis Simon, Noel Simon, Elizabeth Christmas, Mary Ann Rose.
Visitation for Susan Denny will take place after 7 p.m. Monday, at the Gabriel Centre, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
