Carmen Babineau

BABINEAU, CARMEN - Carmen Babineau, 75, wife of Adrien Babineau of Grande-Digue, passed away at the Dr Georges-Dumont University Hospital in Moncton on Friday, May 6, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born June 14, 1935 in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late Prémélite and Alfreda (Robichaud) Robichaud. Besides her beloved husband of 54 years, she will be sadly missed by three loving sons: Charles and Jean (Janice) both of Moncton, Roland (Constance) of Allendale, New Jersey; her five precious grandchildren: Pierre, Adèle, Sophie, Arielle and Luc; a brother, Jean Robichaud (Rose-Mai) of Bouctouche; two sisters, Rolande Poirier (Elie) of Moncton and Nicole LeBlanc(Bernard) of Shediac; two brothers-in-law: Raymond Allain of Moncton and Bernard Maillet of Shediac; several nieces and nephews. Other than her parents, she is predeceased by two sisters: Simonne Allain (1979) and Maryse Maillet (2009). Carmen was a woman with a generous heart whose life was entirely centered on family. She was a very kind and caring sister as the eldest in her family. Carmen was an exceptional wife, a dedicated and attentive mother and a loving and compassionate grandmother. Carmen was also a woman with great faith in her church and was involved in its numerous activities throughout her life. Carmen attended the Collège Notre-Dame d’Acadie and later pursued her studies at the Université de Moncton to complete a Bachelor’s Degree followed by a Master’s in Nutrition and Family Studies. It is during this time that Carmen discovered a new vocation as a University Professor. Carmen was held in high esteem both by her students and her peers. Her tenure at the university was marked by her involvement in the development of her profession as a Home Economist at the local, provincial and national levels. Carmen also found time to reach out to the underprivileged in her community through her work with Moncton Headstart and the Canadian Mental Health Association. Since her retirement, Carmen was a devoted volunteer with the Villa Providence Nursing Home, work that she cherished very much. She also remained an active member on various associations such as the New Brunswick Home Economics Association, l’Institut féminin de Grande-Digue, l’Association des bibliothécaires, professeures, professeurs retraités of l’Université de Moncton and of l'Association des bénévoles de la Villa Providence. Driven with a passion with her husband to discover the world, they travelled extensively together and with family.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Home, 396 Main Street, Shediac (532-3297). Visiting hours Tuesday, May 10th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday from 2 p.m. until departure (3:35) to La Visitation R.C. Church, Grande-Digue, from where the funeral mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Extra-Mural program that Carmen affectionately referred to as her angels. In memory of Carmen, a donation to the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Foundation, the Fondation Providence (Villa Providence volunteers) or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
