RICKARD, JOYCE NOBLE - 1922 - 2011 - Joyce Noble Rickard of Barker’s Point, N.B. passed away at York Manor on Saturday, May 7, 2011, in her 89th year. She was born on October 15, 1922, a daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude (Noble) McMurtrie, and grew up at Springhill Farm just above Fredericton. She graduated from Fredericton High School and the Saint John General School of Nursing (R.N. 1945). She married Ernest (Ernie) Rickard on July 18, 1945. Joyce was an avid gardener, and for many years co-owned and operated Rickard’s Greenhouse in Barker’s Point with husband Ernie. She was a Life Member of the Lower St. Mary’s Women’s Institute. Joyce is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Reece (Phillip) of Quispamsis, and Shirley Grass (Don) of Fredericton; daughter-in-law Nancy Rickard of Ashburn, ON; seven grandchildren, Adam, Amanda and Marilyn, Erin and Sarah, Rosemary and James; six great grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Ernie (2008), her son Paul (2007), and her daughter Diane (1952); sisters Muriel Thompson (2005), Edith MacLeod (2007), and Lois Cameron (2007); and her brother Eric McMurtrie (2010).
Visitation will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 1 to 3 P.M. with interment in the Rural Cemetery Extension immediately following. If desired, donations in memory of Joyce may be made to the N.B. Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
