Mary MacKenzie

PICTOU – Mary Elizabeth MacKenzie, 93, of Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, passed away May 7, 2011 in the home.
Born in Caribou Island, she was a daughter of the late John and Drucilla (Dixon) Baird.
During the war she volunteered with the Red Cross. Mary worked at the Shiretown Nursing Home and also the Edward Mortimer Place, she loved to bake, and visit friends and family, and she especially enjoyed her trips to Ontario.
Mary is survived by her son, John (Ruth), Colborne, Ontario; grandchildren: Terry (Dany); Ajax, Ontario; Wayne; and Sharon (Bruce) Billinghurst, both of Toronto; six grandchildren; brothers, Fred (Shirley) New Glasgow and James.
She was predeceased by her husband Smith; brothers, Henry and Stirling; sister Doris.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, both in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, with Rev. Steve Webb officiating. Burial will be in Waterside Cemetery. A reception will follow in the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Shiretown Nursing Home.
