Roode, Charles “Elmer” – 76, Truro, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on August 17, 2009 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Belmont, he was the son of the late Robert and Geneva (Otterson) Roode. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Elmer worked for nearly 30 years as a “sawyer” for Brookfield Lumber. He loved race horses, raising them as well as racing them; was a member in the Senior Men’s Curling; loved to bowl; was a member of the St. James Male Chorus and had been a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church Choir. Elmer played the fiddle and loved old time music. Fishing was also a great pastime. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Higgins); daughter Joy (Reg) Peters, Enfield; grandchildren Daniel and Alex Peters; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty (Rae); sisters Mary “Connie” LePine, Elsie Rector, Ora Baxter, Jaqui “Eleanor” Fullerton, Nina Entwistle, Roberta Roode and Grace in infancy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 19th from 6-8pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 20th at 2pm in Immanuel Baptist Church, 295 Young Street, Truro, with Rev. Cory Somers officiating. Interment will be in the Belmont Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Lodge That Gives, in care of the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
