It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Teresa (MacLean) Morrison, announce her recent death. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Teresa died peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2018 at Seaview Manor.
Born at McKay’s Point on July 11, 1919, Teresa was the youngest child of the late Vincent and Teresa (MacNeil) MacLean. After the death of her father, Teresa moved to Baddeck where she worked as Assistant Deputy County Clerk for Charles McCurdy and Assistant Secretary Treasurer for the Victoria County School Board. During her time in Baddeck she met her future husband, Peter. They married and moved to Sydney where they raised their eight children, Vincent, Mary Gagnon (Gerry), Ann, Jean Stevens, Joan, Margaret McGuckin (Brian), Eileen Andrews (Sheldon) and Peter (Sandra). Teresa is also survived by her beloved 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Teresa was predeceased by her husband, Peter; her brothers, Peter F., Leo, Alexander, Murdock, John, Michael and Joseph, and her sisters, Helen MacNeil, Lucy Bush, Mary MacDonald and Nancy Gallagher.
Teresa was a well-known and accomplished violinist. In her youth she performed with her brothers Joe and Michael. While living in Sydney, she belonged to the group, Lila’s Scottish Violins. Teresa recorded two C.D.’s for the U.S. based Rounder Records North American Traditions Series, which were produced by Mark Wilson; Laments and Merry Melodies from Cape Breton Island (accompanied by Gordon MacLean) and Lake Bras d’Or (accompanied by Doug MacPhee). Teresa’s repertoire was vast and included, not only her own numerous compositions, but also a great number of bagpipe tunes that came from her husband’s collection.
Teresa was active in her faith. She was a parishioner of St. Theresa’s Church and a lifetime member of the C.W.L.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Ellerker, Dr. Stephanie Langley, the nursing staff on 3A-CBRH, 4 North and the Emergency Staff at the Glace Bay Hospital. Special thanks to the healthcare staff at Seaview Manor. Their compassion during this difficult time was deeply appreciated
Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, on Sunday, January 28, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s
Church, Sydney, Monday, January 29, at 11 a.m. A Reception will follow at St. Theresa Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Cape Breton, or to the charity of your choice.
