Nellie Pilgrim

PILGRIM - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nellie May Pilgrim of Swift Current and formerly of Aneroid, SK, at the Cypress Regional Hospital on Tuesday, May 2, 2011 at the age of 77 years. Nellie was born on the family farm, 28-7-9 west of the 3rd, near Hazenmore, SK on May 30, 1933. She attended school at Jack Creek up to grade 10. Nellie married Horace Pilgrim on November 2, 1951 in Aneroid, SK. She was a farmer and rancher working hard at the Circle V Ranch throughout her life. Nellie was very community minded and was a member of the Royal Purple for 25 years. She had many interests and enjoyed many activities including curling, baseball, singing, music (she could play almost any instrument by ear), bowling, sewing and quilting. Travelling was also a big part of her life as she and Bud travelled to many parts of the world enjoying many winters in Arizona. In November of 1989, Nellie received a very special gift, the gift of life in the form of a liver transplant at the University Hospital in London ON. She fought hard and did very well with her new gift, in fact the family believes her to be the longest surviving liver transplant recipient. This gift made her a life-long proponent of the organ donor program and she often reminded family and friends to be sure to sign their organ donor card when renewing their drivers license. Nellie is survived by her loving husband Horace (Bud) Pilgrim, her children Danny, Ritchie (Rhonda), Tom, Russel (Dee), Laurie (Scott); sisters Edna Foss and Marj Carduner; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father Ellen and Christ Jordet; sisters Ann, Pearl and Alfhild; brothers Bernard and Carl; grandchildren Paxton and Jamie Pilgrim. A memorial service was held for Nellie on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the Aneroid Community Hall with Laura Balas officiating. The pianist was Betty Barager, the eulogy was presented by granddaughters Chelsea, Sarah, Olivia and Sophia Jordon and Amanda Pilgrim. The urn bearing party included grandsons Chad, Garett, Jeremy, Tyler, Matthew, Payton and Preston Pilgrim. Interment took place at Aneroid Community Cemetery. The family would like to thank all those who took time to send flowers and messages of condolence. Your kindness will not soon be forgotten. Memorial donations may be made in Nellie's honor to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation earmarked for the Renal Dialysis Unit. Also in Nellie's memory, consider signing your organ donor cards. Lemieux Funeral Home, Ponteix, SK were entrusted with the arrangements.
