PICTOU - Stella T. Burke, 72, of Strathcona Place, Pictou, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on Sunday, August 16, 2009.
Born in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Annie (Turbide) Burke.
She worked at G.J. Hamilton Biscuit Factory and National Sea Food Ltd. She was also a member of the New Horizons Club, Pictou. Stella enjoyed tole painting, crafts and gardening.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Shauna Lee Collier, New Glasgow; sisters, Annette Reding, Pictou; Eileen (Art) Worth, Lantz; nieces: Michele Burke (Kevin), Pictou; Amber Reding (Ricky), Halifax; Crissie Reding (Donald), Scotch Hill. She is also survived by former husband and best friend, Joe Dalton and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Tony (1985); brother, Peter; and twin sister, Anna in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A reception will take place immediately after the service in the common room of the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou. Burial will take place at a later date.
