It is with great sadness the family announce the unexpected death of Vernon McCarville of Saint John, N.B., who passed away peacefully at home on May 11, 2011.
Born in Emerald Junction, P.E.I., May of 1932 to the late Earl and Helena (Croken) McCarville. Vern is survived by his eight children, Ron (Hazzel Maliborski) of Edmonton, AB, Gary (Louise) of Fredericton, Kevin (Alice), Paul (Moira), Susan, Heather (Terry) Langille, Mary (Peter) Jensen and Paula (Jamie) Hargraves all of Saint John; 13 grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Nicole, Christopher (Jill), Melissa (Dylan Stark), Shaun (Erin), Elizabeth, David, Joseph, John, Nicholas, Bree and Evelyn; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Mason and Clark; two sisters, Orveline Myers and Camilla Howatt; three brothers, Elmer (Elaine), Frank (Joan) and Al (Carol) all of Prince Edward Island; brother and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Leonard) Murphy of P.E.I.; Margaret Spenard of Montreal, PQ; Rosemarie (Michael) Powley of Vancouver, BC; Jack (Alta) Mulligan of P.E.I.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, Vernon was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years Anne Therese (Mulligan) McCarville in 2009 and three brothers-in-law, Harley Howatt, Raymond Spenard and Cody Myers.
Vern worked with CN, the P.E.I. Department of Transportation and Stephenson MacEachern on Prince Edward Island before relocating his family to Saint John in 1969. He then went on to work for White Trucks and Ralph’s Transport before purchasing Lift Parts Atlantic where he was owner/president until his retirement in December 1999.
Vern was a very proud and active member of UCT Jack Kidd Council 755 since 1973. He served as Atlantic Grand Counsellor and attended many international conventions. He was a member of St. Joachim’s parish and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8634. As an avid curler Vern had much success over the years representing the province several times with the senior men’s champions. He was a former president and was an active member of Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, N.B. (506-646-2424) with visitation on Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
A UCT Memorial Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from St. Joachims Catholic Church, 603 Loch Lomond Rd., Saint John, N.B., on Monday, May 16, at 12 noon. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
