Lieu de décès : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 12 mai 2011

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful lady, Dot passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Seaview Manor in Glace Bay where she had been a resident for the past three years.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Ling) MacNeil and was a member of St. Anne’s Church. Dot was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Dot was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, class of 1948 and truly loved her career, sometimes having to nurse us back to health as children. She started her career in Glace Bay and then moved to the United States where she nursed in several locations before returning to Glace Bay. Dot also spent a short time in Bangladesh. She often spoke of the beautiful children she helped there – she truly loved the “little ones” as she would often say. She lived a full life; she loved traveling and spending time with her family and many friends. We know she will be sorely missed and will be remembered as a person who was truly dedicated to her profession.
Dot will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews and their extended families.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by sisters Elizabeth ‘Libby’ MacNeil, Calista (John) Jones, Anne (Blaise) Prendergast; brothers Billy (Margie), Roderick ‘Roddy’ and Joseph (Mary) MacNeil.
In honoring Dot’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 16, from 10 - 11a.m. at V.J. McGillivray funeral Home, 16 Reserve St. Glace Bay.
A funeral Service will directly follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating, interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
In memory of Dot, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
At this time, Dot’s family would like to thank her niece Margie MacNeil for being Dot’s companion for the last several years and who was at her side when she peacefully passed away. We would also like to thank the staff at Seaview Manor for the kind attention they afforded our aunt Dot during her stay.
Online condolences to the MacNeil family are available at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
