It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the death of our father, Frederick Thomas Lee on May 16, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Thomas Lee and Ethel (Ruston) Lee.
Dad was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in Canada and overseas. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion John Bernard Croak VC branch 3, served as auditor executive commander and held the position of treasurer and chairman of the financial committee for nine years. Dad was awarded life membership of merit for legion service.
He was employed with Louisbourg Railway and Devco for 46 years, retiring in September 1987 as shift manager.
He is survived by his son, Bernard (Pam), Glace Bay; his daughters, Marie (John Gillis), Glace Bay, and Linda (Lorne Spencer), Glace Bay, Jean (Dr. Jim Doane), Great Village, N.S., and Joan, Halifax. Fred is also survived by nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sister, Anna Ervin, Glace Bay; and brother, Herbert (Betty), Alberta.
Fred was predeceased by his wife, Marie of 59 years, a son, Gerard in infancy, and brothers, Nelson and Bernie.
As per his wishes, there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, on Thursday, May 19 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
