SANFORD, Calvin Jotham - 86, of Kentville, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at home. Born in Ross Corner, Kings County, on June 28, 1924, he was a son of the late Roy and Thursa (MacDonald) Sanford. Throughout his working career, he was employed in farming, trucking and saw mills, retiring in 1995. He also served in the army during the Second World War as a private in various battalions. A farm boy at heart, Calvin loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and going for drives along the country roads. He is survived by a sister, Myra Tanner, Halifax; two brothers, Carl, Berwick; George (Joyce), Timberlea; two step-daughters, Diane Holmes, Kentville and Tammy, Timberlea; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Dukeshire) (Long); a brother, Earl. Visitation was held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, Reverend Gerald Zinck officiating. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Billtown Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
