Ross Colins

Colins, Ross “Kieth Collins” – 73, of Wards Brook, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at home. Born on the Parrsborough Shore, he was a son of the late Alden and Jessie (Lewis) Collins. Ross served in the 2nd Canadian Guard [Honorable Discharge], spent 25 years raising his family and working with horses in Okotoks, Alta. He was a life member of the American Saddle Bred Association and President of the Calgary and District Association, as well as peoples warden with St. Peter's Anglican Church. He returned to Parrsboro in 1982, where he operated the Deli for 25 years with his wife, Ohra. His deep pride and love for local heritage lead him with support from friends, family and community to help found the Age of Sail Heritage Museum in Port Greville, where he served as president for many years. Ross was also active in local projects such as the Ecumenical Sunday School, the Living Christmas Tree and other such community activities. He is survived by his wife, the former Ohra Kelly; a daughter, Oralee O'Byrne (Jeff), Wharton; sons, Ross Jr., Port Greville; John (Lynn), Okotoks; grandsons, Kyle, Cory, Warren, Micheal, Richard, James and Andrew; sisters, Marion Lewis, Margaret O'Flaherety; brothers, George (Linda), Paul (Janice), Ken (Claudia) and extended family. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pamie; sisters, Patricia and Freda; brother, Murray. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Age of Sail Museum, Port Greville. Refreshments will follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Age of Sail Heritage Museum, Port Greville. Arrangements entrusted to Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro.
