It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the passing of John Edward Gouthro, 26, on August 21, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on November 29, 1982, John was the son of Ona LeBlanc and the late Johnnie Gouthro.
After completing school, John attended the Haley Street Center in North Sydney. He was a resident of the Autistic Society Group Home on Barrington Street, Sydney Mines, for many years.
Although John’s life was filled with sickness and challenges, a loving circle of people surrounded him and encouraged him to his fullest potential. Watching television, going to movies, or just having a bath gave John great pleasure.
He will be forever loved and sadly missed by his mom Ona and stepdad Frank LeBlanc; sisters, Kayla, at home and Michelle (Jonathan) MacDonald, George’s River; stepbrothers, Francis, at home and Lee in Edmonton; grandparents, Emerson and Lenora Jessome, Mill Creek; grandmother, Theresa Gouthro, North Sydney; great-grandmother, Esther Jessome, Mill Creek; Godparents, Lenora Gray and Sheldon Gouthro and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
John was predeceased by his dad, Johnnie Gouthro and his grandfather, Charles Hilton Gouthro.
John’s parents wish to thank the staff at the Autistic Society Group Home where he lived and all people, too many to mention, who made John’s life more comfortable here on earth. God loved our John Edward into life and now we who had the honour of knowing him reluctantly return him to Heaven.
Visitation for John Edward Gouthro will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, August 23, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass celebrating his life will take place on Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. The burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Autistic Society Group Home, 90 Barrington St., Sydney Mines.
