MURPHY, Mary Elizabeth – 78, of Yarmouth, passed away May 16, 2011 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on February 27, 1933, in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Elveta (Madden) Murphy. Mary worked at Minard’s Liniment for most of her career and ended her career working with CN Marine and Marine Atlantic, on the Bluenose. She loved to travel and made many trips to the west coast. She enjoyed going for rides and being in the car. She had a passion for crosswords and knitting. She especially enjoyed visiting lifelong friend, Gwen Phillips. She became a cat-lover later in life when caregivers, Cathy and Fay MacKenzie, showed her their cat. Most of all, she loved children. She was a second mother to, and is survived by, Tish (Ken) Moses, Yarmouth; Bev (Peter) Murphy, Sydney, B.C.; Dave (Cathy) Fowler, Yarmouth; Tim (Lisa) Fowler, Saint John, N.B.; brothers, John and Frank Murphy, both of Yarmouth; special brother-in-law, Norm Fowler, Newfoundland; and her dearly loved eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters, Alice, Emma, Ruby, Margaret and Ella; brothers, Albert and Ansel. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Tuesday, May 17 from 7-9 p.m. Memorial service was held Wednesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Majors Peter and Janice Rowe officiated. Interment followed at Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory may be made to the Yarmouth Food Bank.
