COTTREAU, Stanley John – 89, Church Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born October 16, 1921 in Wedgeport, he was a son of the late Ambroise and Rose (Muise) Cottreau. Stanley was a veteran of the second World War, having served as a signalman with the Canadian Corps of Signals and with the Seaforth Highlanders as a wireless operator and dispatch rider in Italy. Following the war, he served in the 14th Field Militia and he eventually retired from Crosley Karastan Carpets, Truro. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155 Wedgeport, and was also a past president of the Wedgeport Tuna Guides Association. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Beatrice (Mallett) Cottreau, as well as by two children, John “Jack” (Charlene) Cottreau, Bracebridge, ON and Shirley (John) Nickerson, Rockville, along with five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Theresa, Alice and Elise; a brother, Martin. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Randy Cottreau and a daughter, Nancy Dow, as well as by sisters, Yvonne in infancy, Gertrude, Louise, Emily, Rita; brothers, Cornelius and Eugene. Visitation took place from 2-4 & 7-9 Friday, with a Royal Canadian Legion service at 7:30 p.m., followed by prayers at 8 p.m., all H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, where the funeral was held on Saturday, May 21, at 11 a.m., Rev. Mr. Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Tri-County branch of the V.O.N.
