March 28, 1926 - August 21, 2009. Passed peacefully into eternal rest at Hoyles-Escasoni Complex, St. John’s, N.L. surrounded by her loving family. She was co-founder with her husband, Alex, of Brown’s Store on Portugal Cove Road, St. John’s. Predeceased by her parents Jacob and Alice Higdon, brothers Hayward, 1985 (Fanny), Isaac Stanley, 1941, George, 1986 (Nellie), Gerald, 2005 (Helen), Raymond, 1992 (Elva); sisters Lizzie, 1992 (Ernest), Florence, 2006 (Cecil), Ethel, 1930, Vera, 2002 (Roland). Also predeceased by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Hector and Megan Carter (nee Brown) and her brother-in-law Felix Lawton (Daisy). Leaving to mourn her loving husband Alexander of 57 years of marriage and loving children — two sons Keith (Donna), Dwight (Glenda) and one daughter Janice; and her grandchildren Christopher, Shelly, Ian and Sara and her sisters-in-law Daisy Lawton, Elva Higdon and brother-in-law Cecil Higdon. Also leaving to mourn a large number of nephews and nieces in Newfoundland, Scotland, Ireland, United States and Canada, as well as many other friends. Special thanks to the third floor staff of the Hoyles-Escasoni, and also to the Ladies of CEWA who visited her on several occasions and it was much appreciated.
