Stephen Richards

RICHARDS, STEPHEN - Stephen A. Richards, age 55, of Cape Tormentine, passed away unexpectedly at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital in Moncton, surrounded by his family, on Friday, May 20, 2011. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Milton and Janie (Jordan) Richards. He was employed with Marine Atlantic as Captain for 24 years, then went on to work overseas on ships. Stephen loved smelt fishing, drinking coffee at the old Irving, his dogs Striker and Tyka, teasing his wife, kids and grandkids. A well known and respected community man, he was very dependable, and always making himself available to his friends and family in their time of need. He will be dearly missed by his wife Alma (Cormier) Richards, Cape Tormentine, son Jamie (Julie Green), Moncton; daughters Nancy (Terry Cormier) Richards, Shediac, Tamie (Cecil Mallery) Richards, Petitcodiac; mother-in-law Leona Cormier, Shediac; grandchildren, Cohen, Anderson and Noah; sister Charlene (Brian) Trenholm, Cape Spear; half-sister Henrietta (Lawrence) Nicholson, Turtle Creek. He was predeceased by a sister Janice Richards.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St, Port Elgin (506-538-2241) where visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 2 pm, William Drysdale DLM officiating, from Bayfield United Church. Burial will follow in the Bayfield Cemetery. The family wishes to extend many thanks to Dr. Bourgoin, Dr Marc Savoie, and the nurses and staff at Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital who took such good care of Stephen during his time there.
