With joined hearts of gratitude, for a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, we announce the passing of Alton Keith Hardy of Fredericton, N.B., affectionately known as "Al”. Alton passed Thursday evening June 21, 2018 at Hospice House in the presence of several family members. Alton was born November 10, 1936 at Lot 11, P.E.I., son of the late Major and Mary May (Milligan) Hardy. Al began his working career in different places in Summerside, P.E.I. He then moved to Toronto and worked at Eaton's for 12 years. Al eventually moved to Fredericton where he worked for Bird Stairs for numerous years before starting his own janitorial business with his wife, Hardy's Janitorial Services. Al was very dedicated to his local church and a devout Christian. Al faithfully attended the Church of The Nazarene. Al taught Sunday School to various ages for over 50 years, taught Bible studies and later in life distributed the Daily Bread faithfully. He was passionate especially about visitation of those who could not get out and around. Al loved to share stories of his early life and enjoyed going to the Good Life gym on a regular basis. Alton was married to Donna (Wort) Hardy for 56 years; father of daughter, Janice (Hardy) Queale (Clifton) and son, Steven Hardy (Tarrington); grandfather to Brian Queale, (Whitney), Jennifer Chadwick, (Stephen), James Queale (Dom) and Liam Queale; several step grandchildren; great grandfather to Makayla, Kirstin, Emery, Emma and Kurtis; step great grandchildren, Macey and Grayson. Al is survived by siblings, Violet Wood, Wendell Hardy (Mary), Joyce Simmons, Elva Obukuro, Eldon Hardy (Joyce) and Merrill (Helen); many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by siblings, Lorne Hardy and Erma Dockendorff. The Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday, June 25, 2018 from 1-3 p.m.; followed by the Funeral Service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Annabella Vasquez de San Jose officiating. Interment will take place in Freeland United Church Cemetery, Freeland, P.E.I. at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
