It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, Minnie, on August 24, 2009, at her residence.
Born in Sydney, NS, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Margaret (MacPhail) Rodgers.
She was a member of Trinity United Church. In her earlier years, Minnie enlisted with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps from 1942-1945 and served overseas in England, France and Belgium. Later she attended night school and worked as a house mother at the Sydney City Hospital nurses residence until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Jim, Sheila Reeves, Myrna Wolodka, Nancy (Wayne) MacDonald, Joan (Matthew) MacDougall, Marjorie Wolodka, all of Sydney and Paul (Diana) Calgary, AB. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Daniel, Glenn, Kris, Lindsay, Pamela, Curtis, Natalie, Michelle, Jacqueline, Katherine, Ethan, Brittany. Also by five great-grandchildren; two brothers, John, James (Marjorie) Rodgers; sisters, Rita Burt and Margaret Fraser, all of Sydney.
She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Ken Reeves; grandson, Jason Reeves; great-granddaughter, Scarlett Reeves and by a brother, Murdock Rodgers, who was killed in the Second World War while serving with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday August 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Hussey officiating. Interment at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Family requests no flowers, memorials may be made to charity of choice.
