It is with broken hearts the family announces the passing of their mother on May 22, 2011, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Conception Bay, N.L., she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Anna (Doyle) Oliver. Jen was one-in-a-million to her cherished children and friends. She was a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club, had a passion for dancing, her door was always open for anyone to come in and have tea, and most of all, her famous apple pie, not to mention the many neighbourhood children who were treated like one of her own.
She is survived by sons, Blair (Sharon), Bernard (Willena), Timmy (Judy), Wilfred Jr. (Donna), Gussie (Cathy), Brian (Rose) and Blaise; daughters, Patricia (Sandy) White, Fray (Ray) Hogan, Alanna Snook, Clorene, Shannan MacDonald (Richard) and Charlene (Alex); sisters, Margie Rose and Josephine Marsh; 26 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Jen was also predeceased by her husband, Wilfred ‘Biff’ McPherson, daughter, Marlene Jewer, brothers, Peter, Gussie, Nipper, Bunny and Will ‘O’, grandson, Shawn Jewer and son-in-law, George Snook.
Visitation for Jen will take place Tuesday, May 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and a funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday, May 25 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard’s, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Rev. Damian MacPherson and Rev. Albert MacPherson officiating. Burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the KOC, Plummer Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the VON.
