Irving Atwood Burgess
Burgess, Irving Atwood, 95, Truro, passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2011. Born in Shubenacadie he was the son of the late Harry and Emily (Benjamin) Burgess. Irving loved playing hockey in his early years. He also enjoyed curling and in later years represented Nova Scotia at the National Legion Championships on several occasions. Irving served with the Canadian Army, Forestry Corp overseas in World War II. Upon returning home he worked with Canada Customs for 31 years in accounting and administration. He loved playing bridge with his buddies. Upon retirement, Irving and Ruth were always together, fishing, shopping and traveling world-wide. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruth (Brenton); nieces, Mary-Anne (Bruce) Tune, Sarah Jane (Jim) Nickel; nephew, Jim (Judy) Burgess. He was predeceased by his two sons, Robert and Vincent; also a brother Robert. Cremation has taken place. No visitation or service at his request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro. A special thank you is extended by the family to Dr. Neil Bower for his many in-home visits and to the Special Care givers and VON staff who were always there for him and to his neighbours who were there for him and Ruth.
