We, the family of the late Helen Lorna Mavis Mowat-Morrison, regret to announce her sudden passing on Monday, Aug. 24, 2009.
Born in Toronto, Ont., she was the daughter of the late Robert ‘Laird’ Mowat and Margaret (MacAulay) Mowat.
Mavis was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Baddeck.
Her working career touched many different vocations, spending 16 years at the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, the Baddeck Public Library, Statistics Canada, Growing Together, Northside Victoria and was currently employed with Tim Hortons in Baddeck. Mavis also provided research for the movie The Sound and the Silence and the book The Life and Times of Alexander Graham Bell.
Mavis is survived by her loving husband, Samuel John Morrison; and her son, Ian Stuart Cann, Halifax, N.S.; daughters, Maia Alexis Dauphinee (Kirk), White’s Lake, N.S., Christine Theresa Cann, Baddeck, Chelsea Margaret Morrison and Samantha Mavis Morrison, both at home; sisters, Cathy O’Donovan (Derm), Whitehorse, Yukon, Mary Tryon (Blair), Ottawa, Ont., and Christine Nemeth, Whitehorse, Yukon; grandchildren, Aidan Cann, Baddeck, and Genevieve and Ethan Dauphinee, White’s Lake; and many much loved nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mavis was predeceased by her sister, Laura Mowat, brother, Sandy Mowat and brothers, Ian and Mark in infancy.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the MacAskill Funeral Home in Baddeck. A funeral service will take place Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Baddeck, with Rev. Cameron Brett officiating. Burial will take place at the Highland Cemetery, Plaster Mines, at a later date.
Family flowers only by request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
