Matthews, Alfred Earl - 98, formerly of Debert, passed away October 22, 2018 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Debert on May 6, 1920, he was a son of the late Earl and Iola (McCully) Matthews. Alfred is survived by his daughters, Sharon Rundle, Nine Mile River; Barbara Matthews, Stellarton; Carole Darrah (David), Hilden; brother, Arnold Matthews; Welland, Ontario; sister-in-law, Beulah Matthews, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Sonya Casey (Chris); Ann Crossman (Ray Telder); Matthew Darrah; great grandchildren, Andrew and Michael Casey. Alfred was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley (Patriquin) Matthews; brother, Chesley Matthews; sisters, Irene MacCallum, Beatrice Stevens, and Fern Stewart. The family would like to thank the staff of Cedarstone for their great care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating.
