It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Agnes Turner, age 78, on Thursday, August 27, 2009, at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Agnes was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Born in Glace Bay on September 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Mullins) Jolley. Agnes was a member of Holy Cross Church in Glace Bay.
Agnes was a very organized person paying much of her time to detail. Agnes was the administrator of Turner’s Taxi, and Turner’s Fuels, two companies owned and operated by her and her husband Francie. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and traveling with her husband and her family. Her greatest love in life was her family, whom she was very proud and protective of.
Agnes is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Francis, Sydney; daughter, Debbie (Joseph) Roberts, Glace Bay; brothers, Joe Jolley, Ottawa and Charles Jolley, Glace Bay; seven grandchildren, Jason, Mark, Rodney, Joseph, Frank, Chad, Chris; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Bryanna, Hana, Neese, Caeden and son-in-law, Allistar Taylor, Sydney.
Agnes was predeceased by her daughter, Francine Taylor; brothers, Richard, William, John and sisters, Bridgie, Helen and Marie.
Visitation for Agnes Turner will take place today (Saturday) only, August 29, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. There will be a private family funeral service officiated by Fr. Leo Boone, Monday, August 31, at 10 a.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery
As an expression of sympathy for Agnes, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
