Born May 4, 1944, she was the daughter of the late William and Sis (Petrie) MacDonald.
Edie was employed as a custodian at South Street School, Sterling School and head custodian at Glace Bay School since its opening. She loved going to the casino with her best friends, Jean MacDonald and Madelyn Munroe.
Edie will be sadly missed by her daughters, Cathy (Gerry), North Sydney, Jennifer, Newfoundland; sons, Jamie (Michelle), Glace Bay, and Barry, at home; cherished grandchildren, Matthew Chauder, Jamie, Danielle and Dylan MacDonald, Randy and Candy MacDonald; and sister, Lorna Yorke, Ontario. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Even though Edie’s favourite saying was, “I hate kids”, she became a mother to 1,200 kids at the GBHS each year since its opening. Edie’s door was always opened for anyone who needed a hand.
