It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our dear husband, father, brother and grandfather, Fred Gwinn, 77, on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sugar Loaf, Victoria County, he was a son of the late Wilson and Sarah Hughenia (Wilkie) Gwinn.
In his earlier years Fred worked as a fisherman, and then served with the Canadian Army for four years and afterwards was employed as a truck driver for Irving Oil and also the fish plant in Dingwall. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
He is survived by his wife, Florence ‘Flo’ (Hare) (Hayden); his three daughters, Kimberly (Kenneth) Fitzgerald, Aspy Bay, Margaret (Carl) Walsh, Sussex, N.B., Amy (James) Babek, Ivoryton, Conn.; his stepchildren, Dale Rose, Tina (Fred) Lemoine, Kathy (Brian) Strickland, Lorrie Hayden, James Hayden, all of North Sydney, and Wendell Hayden, Petawawa, Ont.; his sisters, Effie Ryan, Sydney, Iris Wilkie, Windsor, N.S., Bertha Gwinn, Cheticamp, Ray Deyoung, New Glasgow; and his brother, Richard Gwinn, North Sydney. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters Vida Irving and Mary Hayden.
Visitation for Fred will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
