MR. ELMER SMITH
1923 – 2009
Elmer Smith of MacDowall, SK passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Betty; three daughters Glenda Rohachuk of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Janet and Geraldine of Prince Albert; his two grandsons Kelly and Todd Rohachuk of Edmonton, AB; one sister Wilma Woods of Nanaimo, BC; one brother Murray of Thunder Bay, ON and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Lillian; brother Gordon and sister-in-law Barbara. As a child of 12 years, Elmer moved with his family from Mortlach, SK to settle in the MacDowall (Lindsay) area. He was a veteran, having served his country for 2½ years 1941 – 1944. In the earlier years, winter months were spent cutting cordwood. He definitely knew his way around a chainsaw! He mix farmed in the district until retirement. His spare time was then devoted to volunteer service, providing vocal entertainment at various seniors’ facilities and private functions. Prior to his failing health, you would find him on the dance floor Saturday evenings. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society. A public graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 3 from Prince Albert Memorial Gardens with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating. Following the service the family invite you to join them for tea and dainties in the Ballroom of the Prince Albert Travelodge.
