Donald MacDonald
Donald Robbins MacDonald, 80, of Fifth Street, Trenton, passed away May 31, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Trenton, he was a son of the late Daniel R. and Emily (Warrington) MacDonald.
Donald was a life long resident of Trenton. He retired from the former Scott Maritimes with over 25 years service. He was a pilot having owned his own plane for a number of years. He was also a first rate jump pilot with the former Eagles Skydiving Club where he received the award of appreciation for his piloting skills.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He enjoyed drawing, painting and was an avid woodworker.
In his younger years he enjoyed the Air Cadets and Boy Scouts.
While living in Trenton, he served on Town Council for a number of years, was a fireman as well as a past member of the police commission.
He was a friend of Bill W. for over 40 years, as well as a former member of the Doric Masonic Lodge #91 Trenton.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years the former Charlotte (Hemwood), Trenton; sons, David A. (Donna), Stellarton; Barry D. (Lorraine), Little Harbour; daughters, Linda D. (Richard) Kenney, Hopewell; Kathleen D. ”Kate” (Brad) Stewart, Island East River, Pictou County; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Woody, Trenton; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers: Harry, Raymond, Calvin and Kenneth and a sister, Violet.
Cremation to take place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Gordon Wheeler presiding. Burial of ashes to follow in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Donald may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society.
