Sandy (Sandra) Marie Dennis nee Kane of Yarmouth left us to be with the Lord on February 20, 2019. Survived by her husband Kenneth A. Dennis; children, Cory T. Daly, Ottawa, Charlene A. Wilcox (Tim) Yarmouth; step-children, Scott K. Dennis (Stephanie) Halifax, Sara B. Allen, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Mitchel, Noah and Abigail; step- grandchildren, River, Eric and Freya. Sandy operated Sandy’s Gifts from 1994 after moving to Yarmouth with her husband and until her cancer diagnosis in Feb 2017. She regularly supported charities and fundraisers and had a strong love for her adopted community as well as her many dear friends. Sandy was elected to Yarmouth Town Council in 2012 and served on numerous committees up until her passing. While undergoing treatment, she was instrumental in and very passionate about bringing forward the need for changes to lessen the stress of financial, mental and travel burdens that patients endure while accessing cancer care outside of their community. The family wishes to thank The Lodge That Gives, the palliative care team, VON, EHS, Yarmouth Regional Hospital ER medical staff, 4 East nurses, and her oncology team in Halifax for the compassionate care she received throughout her cancer journey. Final arrangements were handled by Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium. There was a memorial service at the Yarmouth Wesleyan Church on Saturday February 23, 2019 at 2 P.M., Rev. David Hockley officiated. Committal was at Riverside Cemetery in Hebron, Yarmouth Co. NS. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice, the VON or The Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund. Family flowers only please.
