Our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Regina Bagnell RN, on Tuesday, February 26,2019 at the age of 93.
Born on Oct. 2, 1925 in Little Lorraine, Cape Breton, she was the oldest daughter of the late William Ignatius Gallant and Mary (Kennedy) Gallant.
After completing high school in Louisbourg, she went off to fulfill her dreams of becoming a nurse and graduated from the Halifax Infirmary with her RN in 1949. She started her career as an OR nurse at St. Rita's Hospital in Sydney and it was here that she was reunited with a high school classmate, Bud Bagnell, who finally captured her heart. They married in Nov. 1951 and together they raised four children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Their love story continued till his passing in 2007. She has finally been reunited with him for eternity.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Bill Bagnell; her sister, Kaye Leighton, and six siblings at birth.
She is survived by her daughters, Gina Pelham (Cliff) Halifax, Claire Bagnell, Ottawa, and Bernadette Bagnell (Donnie) Halifax; sisters, Leona MacDonald, Helen Arsenault, and Anna Vance all of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Erin Doak (Alan), Ottawa, Ericka Pelham (Dennie Oliver) Halifax, Luke Pelham (Jill) Halifax, Bayleigh Pelham, Toronto, Kayla Wilson (Peter) New York, Devin Wilson, Toronto, Brittney Jones (Dorian) Toronto, Kari McGinley (Matt) Halifax and Whitney Bagnell, Truro. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Isla, Vaughn, Denver, Monroe Nyomi, Lillyanne, Easton and Breigh and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and she will be in the care of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Flying Cloud Drive, Cole Harbour.
Visitation will be Thurs. March 21, 6-8 p.m. and Funeral Mass will be Friday, March 22 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Pat Cosgrove officiating.
We would like to thank the staff at the Berkeley, Bedford and the staff at Alderney Lane in Lewis Hall, Parkland for the compassion and care they gave our mother in her final days.
