Walter "Rabbi" George
Walter Leonard “Rabbi” George, 62, of Burnside Manor, Scotsburn, passed away May 31, 2011 in the QEII, Halifax Infirmary Site.
Born in Pictou, he was a son of the late Harold and Matilda (Robertson) George.
He worked as a welder, and was employed at Trenton Works, and the Pictou and Halifax Shipyards. An avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Rabbi was retired from the Old Puckers Hockey Team, but still enjoyed refereeing an occasional soccer game.
He was a loving family man and is survived by sons, Shawn (Robin) and Kellum (Amber), both of New Glasgow; grandchildren: Karissa, Mathus, Dyllon, Cody, Ashdon, Lucas and Chloe; dear friend, Joyce Odekirk and family; sister, Laura (Courtney) Lannon; and sister-in-law, Linda George, both of Pictou; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy; and a nephew in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. A private family funeral will be held with burial in St. James Cemetery. A celebration of Rabbi’s life will be held at the Pictou Men’s Club on Saturday from 8 to 11 p.m.
