The Little White Church By Gertrude Reid
There’s a little white church at the top of the hill
Nestled amongst the pines.
Where once was heard God’s Holy Word
And where love and peace entwined.
In summer surrounded by wild flowers
In winter blanketed by snow.
Creates a picturesque setting
For the little church of long ago.
It was built in the year 1837
By the early settlers of the land.
To them it was a labor of love
By strong and willing hands.
You get a feeling of nostalgia
Whenever you enter the door.
You feel God’s Holy presence there,
As in the days of yore.
With its quiet and quaint surroundings
Its unique pews, carved out by hand.
We thank God for the work and dedication
Of settlers to this land.
Many of its members sleep in the churchyard
Beneath the brow of the hill.
Where the spirit of God forever lingers
O’er a plot that is silent and still.
Many folk have left its midst
Leaving many fond memories behind,
But taking with them fond recollections
Of the little white church in the pines.
May it stand like the rock of ages
Steadfast, faithful and sincere.
And may God bless and protect it
Throughout its remaining years.
An anniversary service is held in the church
Each and every year.
To pay tribute to the Scottish Settlers
And the ones they held so dear.
Many changes have taken place
Throughout the realms of time,
But standing steadfast as a memorial
Is the little white church in the pines.
